About the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis Position:
Key leadership position with responsibility for the company’s FP&A function including budgeting, forecasting, decision support and other financial analysis. This position requires a deep understanding of business operations and associated financial drivers to ensure the Company has the ability to accurately project future financial performance at all levels, from individual customer contracts to overall Company performance. Leads the processes to establish financial plans for the business and all functional areas in collaboration with the company leadership team, monitors, analyzes and reports on performance against the plan to all levels of management and the board and assists leadership in developing plans to deal with performance differences. Ensures financial rigor is applied in making all significant business decisions and that leadership has appropriate visibility to associated financial risks. Identifies and implements improvements in the Company’s financial planning, tracking and reporting systems and processes to strengthen the financial and operational control environment. Leads the financial analysis staff and significant cross functional processes and activities in fulfilling these responsibilities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for budgeting, forecasting, decision support analytics and other financial analysis for the enterprise
- Directs the development and maintenance of key drivers and metrics to track and project business performance
- Drives the planning and execution of the budgeting process annually in collaboration with company leadership
- Manages and maintains rolling forecasts at the departmental and enterprise levels to identify performance deviations from budgets and develop and propose plans to address deviations
- Oversees the analyses of monthly financial results to validate accuracy and completeness of revenues and costs and to identify developing operating trends
- Directs the preparation, analysis and presentation of monthly reporting with company leaders that clearly articulates the linkage between operational and financial performance
- Analyze proposed business opportunities, projects and other pending decisions, both strategic and tactical to determine impact on company’s financial results and to identify ways to improve the economics for the Company
- Prepare post mortems on prior decisions to determine if actual costs/benefits were consistent with original projections
- Assess and quantify risks in operating plans and pending decisions
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis as required
- Prepare insightful reporting of financial and operating results for senior leadership, investors, and the board on a monthly and quarterly basis
- Key contributor to the strategic planning process for the enterprise
Experience:
- 10-12 years of broad based operational finance experience with progressive responsibility in industry leading companies
- Small to medium sized growth company experience
- Experience with best practice tools and techniques in performing similar responsibilities
- Experience establishing financial rigor in entrepreneurial environments
- Proven experience as a change agent
- Software/wireless experience preferred
- Some international experience preferred
- Ability to quickly understand and gain insights into business operations and challenge accepted practices and methodologies where appropriate
- Excellent analytical, written, oral, organizational, and presentation skills to influence company leadership and decisions at all levels
- High degree of technical knowledge and skill in applying operational finance, accounting and financial and business analytics
- Ability to identify and accurately assess business risks
- Skilled in the use of Excel and other tools to perform financial modeling
- Collaborative, inclusive work style.
Education:
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting
