College Bound Scholarship Counselor – ESD 105

Summary:
As part of the College Bound Scholarship team, the College Bound Scholarship Counselor will
recruit College Bound Scholarship (CBS) applicants in their assigned Educational Service
District. The goal of the program is to register 60% of the eligible seventh and eighth grade
students for the College Bound Scholarship statewide.
As a part of this effort, the ESD 105 College Bound Scholarship Counselor will work
collaboratively with the school principals, teachers, counselors, other college access providers,
community-based organizations in the ESD 105 region and with the staff of the College Success
Foundation to recruit College Bound Scholarship (CBS) applicants for schools and communities
in Educational Service District 105.
Responsibilities:
Serve as a member of the College Bound Scholarship team, working within an

Educational Service District to support the registration goals for the CBS program.
Support and promote the CBS program within assigned Educational Service District and
•
throughout the state by working with teachers, principals, superintendents, staff, college
access providers and community based organizations to recruit students for the College
Bound Scholarship program.
Initiate, plan, and execute information sessions, assemblies, town hall meetings and
•
other special sign-up events in conjunction with the goals and objectives of the CBS
plan.
Advise students and families of CBS requirements and application instructions. Provide
•
follow-up to students and parents via phone, letters, email and scheduled appointments.
Advocate for CSF and the College Bound Scholarship program by attending and
•
participating in community functions and programs that will enhance the visibility of our
programs and ultimately help more young people succeed in high school and eventually
complete bachelor’s degrees.
Work with students, parents and/or alumni organizations, college access providers,
•
colleges and universities, faith based organizations and other volunteers that assist the
recruitment of students.
Advise students and families of admission requirements, transfer guidelines, financial
•
aid, scholarship information, program, and residence life, etc.
Provide follow-up to students and parents via phone, letters, email, and scheduled
•
appointments in specific recruitment territory.
Review registration applications.
•
Complete routine reports related to recruitment, projections, personal schedule, travel,
•
special programs, and professional development.
Evaluate program effectiveness, assess outcomes, and develop improved programming
•
to achieve goals. Complete cost analyses, for programs/events.
Adhere to CSF policies and procedures regarding travel and procurement.
•
Collect and analyze data to support reporting requirements related to the College Bound
•
Scholarship program. Assist in evaluating the program effectiveness by assessing
outcomes and developing improved programming to achieve program goals.
Participate in staff development workshops and trainings.
•
Perform other duties as assigned.
•
Qualifications:
Must be outgoing and personable with the ability to relate well with diverse populations
•
and age groups, with particular emphasis on working with both young people, ages 12 –
22, K-12 school personnel and community-based organization staff.
Evidence of being a “self-starter”, ability to work independently and comply with all
•
program standards of the CBS Director and the College Success Foundation.
Must have an established commitment to work collaboratively and harmoniously with
•
school staff, colleagues, community resource persons and the Foundation home office
staff. Creativity, human relations skills, and problem solving ability are essential in a
team approach to organizational goal attainment.
Must have strong organizational skills and ability to handle a variety of tasks and
•
projects on an ongoing basis, including meetings with students, mentors, schools,
parents/guardians, Foundation staff and other community resource persons.
Ability to travel and work a varied schedule. Must have a reliable automobile available at
•
all times.
Familiarity with the communities served by the Educational Service District, and recent
•
effective involvement with students in those school communities is preferred.
Knowledge, skills and expressed interest in developing proficiency in the use of
•
Microsoft Office products is preferred.
Knowledge of K-12 systems is a plus.
•
Previous community organizing experience is a plus
•
Ability to lift 50lbs. is preferred.
•
Requirements:
A baccalaureate degree is required.
•
Three years of related work experience in fields related to mentoring, leadership
•
development; youth development, teaching, counseling or community organizing is
preferred.
A strong customer service orientation, leadership skills and attention to details are
•
essential, along with excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication,
presentation, and networking skills.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook is
•
required.
Must be willing to travel within Washington State and have access to a reliable
•
automobile, valid Washington State driver’s license and automobile insurance.
Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, including some weekends and evenings.
Compensation and Benefits:
The hiring range for this position is expected to be $36,000 to $45,000 per year. The placement
of the salary will be based on the applicant’s education level, experience and other attributes.
The Foundation offers outstanding benefits including medical, dental and vision for employees;
a generous retirement contribution; holiday pay, three weeks of vacation for the first five years
of employment and four weeks of vacation thereafter.
