Job Description:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This position is only open to employees of the district.  Positions in this broad class assist the high school principal in providing educational, instructional and operational leadership in a high school.  

Responsibilities include planning and organizing for the learning achievement of students; and coordinating and evaluating staff, programs and services within the school.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:      
    * Knowledge of rules and regulations governing the operation of high schools.
    * Skills in oral and written communications; curricular and instructional leadership; program and staff evaluation; personnel management and supervision; selecting, training, monitoring, motivating and assigning staff; applying and interpreting labor agreements; resolving conflict, employee issues and grievances; time management; group process; keyboarding, data entry and word processing.
    * Ability to plan and administer budgets; supervise building and grounds maintenance; work independently; utilize District and community resources to meet student needs; establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of others.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:      

    * Administers instructional programs and support services.  Plans use of District/community resources to support student and building needs.
    * Establishes and seeks to achieve District and state goals to improve student learning.  Hires, trains, and evaluates staff.  Seeks staff, student, and community input in planning for District goals; develops process for planning and implementation.
    * Ensures that accurate personnel, student, and fiscal records are maintained.  Monitors school budget and expenditures.  Ensures school compliance with maintenance, security, safety and health standards.
    * Leads instructional programs; promotes initiative and creativity.  Assists in establishing and implementing well-defined curriculum goals in all areas.
    * Guides teachers to provide for individual needs and abilities of students.  Supervises student testing/evaluation procedures, using results for program improvement.
    * Implements systematic classroom observations; monitors planning of teachers’ curriculum.
    * Facilitates a positive school image among staff, students, parents and the community.  Deals constructively with interpersonal issues.  Maintains discipline through open communication among students, staff and parents.  Supervises reporting of students’ progress.
    * Communicates and serves as a liaison with parents, the community, the public and school administration; administers District policies and procedures.  Works with parent/community organizations and agencies.
    * Monitors own job performance; encourages feedback from staff, students, parents and community.  Formulates and plans for appropriate personal goals for professional improvement.
    * Continues short- and long-term professional study and activity; maintains current knowledge on issues.  Develops and evaluates annual school objectives in compliance with the Board of Directors’ policies and procedures.
    * Uses computers and related technologies.  Serves on a variety

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:       

    * Master’s degree in educational administration or a related field and three years of demonstrated successful teaching and administration experience.  Valid Washington State High School Principal’s Certificate; valid first aid and CPR certification; valid Washington State driver’s license or evidence of mobility.

EMPLOYMENT INFO / APPLY TO:
Work is typically performed in an office environment.  Incumbent is frequently required to attend evening/weekend meetings or activities.

Effective Year/Work Hours
Full-time interim position through the end of this school year.
