This is a generic, continuous posting to receive applications in order to create a pool of applicants to interview as vacancies occur during the 2009-2010 school year.
Supports the student learning environment with counseling methods aimed at crisis intervention, social skills and prevention activities so that students will be better able to learn.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
* Knowledge of current theories and methodologies of effective family interventions and behavior modification; State and Federal regulations regarding special education, custody and other family issues, recordkeeping, etc.; community support resources and family service agencies.
* Ability to provide instruction to parents regarding the use of behavior management/modification techniques; handle confidential matters and information in a professional manner, including obtaining, clarifying and exchanging information; communicate effectively with co-workers, students, parents and the public.
* Skills in using proper grammar and English in oral and written communications as well as correct spelling usage; data entry and word processing.
* Maintain high standards of professionalism and diplomacy; establish cooperative working relationships with District staff to enhance the completion of assigned tasks; and work in an atmosphere where interruptions occur frequently and priorities are often modified, using a high degree of flexibility.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Participate in providing intervention support services in a team approach for students, staff and parents.
* Teach skills in the classroom, or other group settings, concerning coping, social norms, physical and emotional survival, mediation, multi-cultural awareness and problem solving.
* Provide staff and parent training in areas such as intervention techniques, learning styles, behavior management, instructional approaches, attention deficits, at-risk characteristics, drug-affected children, child development and parenting skills.
* Participate in multi-disciplinary assessments for areas such as academic, intellectual, learning styles, behavioral, and social/emotional/health needs.
* Provide crisis intervention and management support to students, staff and parents.
* Work with students to implement and monitor IEPs (Individual Education Plans).
* Help develop and monitor 504 plans for students.
* Consult and collaborate with parents, school staff and outside agency personnel regarding mental health, behavioral, social/emotional and educational concerns, their implications and means of intervening.
* Evaluate and record student progress; collect and interpret a variety of data; prepare reports.
* Develop and maintain professional competency through in-service education, coursework or professional growth activities.
* Serve on staff committees as required.
* Use computers and related technologies.
* Perform related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree with a major in counseling and experience working with students is required. Valid Washington State ESA (Educational Staff Associate) certification as a counselor; valid Washington State driver's license or evidence of mobility.

SALARY: Salary range for the 2008-2009 school year (Base plus TRI) is $41,145 to $79,802. Continuing and/or non-continuing contract(s) will be offered based on the District's needs.
