Job Description:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:    This temporary position is for 2.5 hours per day supervising students in the lunchroom.  The daily schedule is 10:00am to 12:30pm.  This position ends at the end of the school year.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 
  • Knowledge of rules and procedures for student safety.
  • Skills in oral and written communications.
  • Ability to deal with students in a warm and confident manner; monitor student behavior and administer student discipline; enforce safety rules; organize activities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Supervises students on school grounds by explaining rules and disciplining students as appropriate.  Intervenes to stop student fights and/or resolve arguments.
  • Refers students with continuing behavior problems to principal or teacher; prepares reports as required.
  • Monitors safety of school grounds; reports unsafe school equipment or conditions to school administrator.
  • Establishes and maintains positive rapport with students; observes students for indicators of emotional problems and refers these students to the appropriate staff.
  • Distributes playground equipment; instructs students in the proper use of equipment; retrieves equipment at the end of the period.
  • Provides basic first aid to students injured on the playground such as cleaning minor cuts; completes accident reports as necessary.
  • Accompanies groups of students to the lunch area; assists in keeping students moving through the lunch line.
  • Supervises students in the school’s lunch area; disciplines students as needed.
  • Assists students with their meals such as opening cartons and cleaning up spills.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  
  • High school diploma or GED (General Education Degree) and have completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits), or have obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree or have successfully passed the ParaPro Assessment developed by the Educational Testing Service.
  • Certification in CPR and first aid. 
  • Some positions may require a valid Washington State driver's license or evidence of mobility.

EMPLOYMENT INFO / APPLY TO:  

This job typically requires working outdoors and standing for prolonged periods.  Incumbents are typically required to deal with angry, distraught students; may experience frequent interruptions.

The job duties/responsibilities of this position have been identified as High Risk (reasonably anticipated to have exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens).  Employees in this position are required to complete annual Bloodborne Pathogen (HIV/Hepatitis B) renewal training and are eligible to receive Hepatitis B immunizations paid for by Everett Public Schools.

 
SALARY: 

First 20 days - $11.56 per hour.

20 days + - $13.16 - $16.52 per hour 09-10 rates; EAP Salary Schedule (Regular positions are pro-rated over 12 months).

Effective Year/Work Hours   Temporary through the end of the school year 2009 - 2010; 2.5 hours per day; 194 days per year.
