Job Purpose
As the primary manager and senior member of the project management team(s), has P&L responsibility for assigned projects, accomplished through management of estimate, planning, scope, cost, and time. Tasks include project initiation and estimate, management of project execution, negotiation of change orders, contract interpretation, forecasting financial and schedule results, internal and supplier project support tasking, management of risk exposure, and appropriate termination of projects including billing and performance analyses.
Essential Results
Profit and loss responsibility for assigned project(s) from initial planning through invoice collection. Develop and maintain budgets, periodically report on budget performance and provide budget information to internal departments.
Lead Production Team(s) and coordinate work of shipyard support to ensure safe execution of work, budgets in man-hours and dollars, schedules, and quality objectives are met. Develop and implement project administration and structure to suit project complexity.
Utilizes Trade Coordinator for resource allocation.
Responsible for contract management, change orders, adherence to the Shipyard’s standard terms and conditions, accepted offers and any similar documents.
Prepare accurate customer invoices and ensure timely payment.
Develop post-contract reports on projects, including costs at completion, as required.
Establish and maintain sound working relationships with customers, consistent with the best interests of the Company. Represent the Company internally and externally with enthusiasm.
Contribute productively to change and be a model for the key behaviors.

Job Environment
Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard. Normal office environment, 35% of time spent in production areas in-yard onboard ships. Must be able to walk to and from job sites. While in production areas, will be exposed to all weather conditions, noise, dusts and odors. Must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders. Must be able to enter confined areas and tanks. Must be able to work at heights. Will be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work. Must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl and twist. Extensive periods of time sitting in front of a computer terminal entering/manipulating data. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Local travel and out-of-town (including air travel) up to 10% of the time, sometimes without notice. Travel may be random and unpredictable.
Education Qualifications
A minimum of a high school diploma or GED and post-secondary business or technical training required; or, certification in project management, contract management or a current license as a marine engineer. Further education, up to and including a bachelor’s degree, in business or a technical specialty preferred.
Experience Required
A minimum of eight years of increasingly responsible experience in the ship construction and repair industry required. This must include a minimum of three years’ project management experience, working with construction superintendents, craft supervisors, port engineers, vessel owners and support department managers. Generalist work experience/knowledge of ship structures, equipment and machinery. At-sea experience desired. Project contract and change order-negotiating experience. Safety and EPA requirements. Legal and marine insurance matters. Government contracting experience (FAR and DCAA) preferred, but not required.
Necessary Skills
Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written for constant interaction with all departments and employee levels and outside customers. Ability to interface with all operations of the shipyard required. Must have excellent negotiation skills. PC skills throughout the Microsoft Office suite environment are mandatory. Must be a well organized, detailed and customer (internal and external) oriented self-starter. Ability to exercise sound judgment, work well independently, prioritize duties and follow through tasks to completion. Ability to read and comprehend work specifications, work orders, blueprints, contracts and technical publications. Must be able to handle competing priorities and deadlines effectively and respond well to last minute, high priority, and time sensitive projects. Ability to handle the pressure of constant interruptions. Ability to schedule, direct and organize work within a diverse department and coordinate work with other departments to maintain efficiency. Ability to facilitate group decision-making, team building and conflict resolution.
