Major Gifts Officer

Summary: Working under the direction of the VP of Development, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for development of the Chairman’s Circle, recognizing and engaging donors of $10,000 and above to KCTS 9’s general operating fund and developing and implementing strategy for acquiring gifts of $10,000 or more. This includes strategy development, coordination with senior staff and the President’s Office, and strategic collaboration with volunteers (KCTS 9 Board). Oversees prospect research and management strategy. This position carries primary responsibility for the KCTS 9 Salon Series and other special programs emanating from KCTS 9’s participation in the CPB/PBS Major Giving Initiative. Working with the VP of Development supports the strategic activity of the Development Committee.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Lead
1. Manage relationships with a portfolio of 50-75 prospective donors ($10,000 and up) in Washington and Canada
2. Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward these individuals while working collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, the Leadership Team, and other members of the development team
3. Develop KCTS 9’s Major Gifts strategic plan based on the structure and process outlined by the CPB Major Giving Initiative
4. Develop KCTS 9's Major Gifts annual operational and revenue plans based on the structure and process outlined by the CPB Major Giving Initiative
5. Connect with potential donors through personal visits, spending approximately 50 percent of time outside of the office at events and meeting with donors and prospective donors
6. Serve as a well informed representative and advocate for KCTS 9
II. Collaborate
1. Coordinate prospect plan with President, VP of Development, Manager of Planned Gifts, Manager of Underwriting and Corporate Support, Grants and Foundations Manager, and Leadership Circle Manager
2. Produce Donor Continuum Statement
3. Work with volunteers, Production and Accounting
3. Work with Public Broadcasting Corporation
4. Corporation for Public Broadcasting
5. Develop and maintain relationships with business and community leaders
7. Develop and maintain relationships with other Major Gifts Officers
8. Work with major donors and the Board as appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES
1. Bachelors degree required
2. Five (5) years’ fundraising for non-profit organizations required
3. Must excel in working with high net-worth individuals, families, and businesses and have the ability to compel investment in KCTS 9’s mission
4. Demonstrated successful experience and effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, solicitation, and Board interaction required
5. Thorough working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook required
6. Strong research skills, database and membership management experience required
7. Extensive local and regional travel throughout Washington and Western Canada required
8. Regularly report to work as scheduled
