Summary of Functions:

Qualified candidates will have at least 2 years of medical insurance collections experience, with Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial Insurance. Insurance Collection and billing will be key. This person will be doing more collections and rebilling than the actual initial billing. Medicare Part D experience is preferred & Medicare Part B experience with knowledge of DME billing is necessary.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    * Verifying the accuracy of billing data and revising any errors.
    * Preparing and submitting clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper.
    * Obtain and apply information to accurately submit Medicare Part B (DME) claims.
    * Research and assist in obtaining website access with various processors in order to upload and/or key claims online.
    * Follow-up and resolve unpaid and short paid claims.
    * Modify, sort, adjust, re-bill, and mail out patient statements during end of month close.
    * Uphold Medicare, Medicaid, and HIPAA compliance guidelines in relation to billing, collections, and PHI information.
    * Handle patient, pharmacy, and insurance complaints professionally and quickly with complete and timely follow through. Have the ability to recognize when a complaint needs to be escalated to the Billing Supervisor.
    * Answer telephones and transfer to appropriate teammate with excellent customer service.  Handle all questions in relation to current balances due, where to send payment, or any other billing and collection related questions.

Additional Responsibilities:

    * Provide coverage for fellow teammates when they are out of the office.
    * Have the ability to be flexible with your work schedule if it is necessary to meet deadlines or deliverables as assigned by the Billing Supervisor or Executive Management.  This is a requirement during End of Month Close.
    * Other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Knowledge & Skills Requirements:

    * Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.  Medical or Health Insurance billing and collection experience is required.
    * Knowledge of Microsoft Office, billing systems and telephone protocol. Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to type 50 wpm. This is normally acquired through one to three years of clerical experience.
    * Ability to be a participating member in a cooperative work environment.
    * Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of patient personalities, in a diverse environment.
    * Knowledge of health care billing, collection and credit balance procedures, requirements, documentation, and compliancea/HIPAA standards.
    * Ability to organize, prioritize and manage various work assignments in a fast paced environment.
