Position Description 


Expedia, the largest Online Travel Agency, is looking for an highly talented Software Design Engineer to join the Expedia Web Services Development team. EWS produces an enterprise web service platform, new innovation and core services consumed by Expedia partner and sister companies.  These are exciting times for EWS as we're launching a new product line to the company and to the world - join us and help set the standard for travel-related APIs world-wide!  


 


In this role, you will be working closely with other developers on new and existing code in Java,  some C++, and SQL to build new services, interface with legacy systems and expose Expedia inventory and functionality through web services.  You will have a chance to work on some of the hardest problems in the industry and be surrounded by the best people.  We need a passionate Developer with a very high technical background and aptitude who can help us build high performance, highly available systems.  Some of the biggest names in the world are currently or will become our clients so you'll get a chance to see your work being used and appreciated by people everywhere.

Responsibilities: 


 


•  Design and own your piece of the platform from conception through to production rollout.


 


•  Have a strong eye for the operational aspects of the platform such as performance tuning and monitoring.


•  Leverage your strong background in Java programming, with an emphasis in server-side development and open source technologies


•  Prototype creative solutions quickly, and be able to lead others in crafting and implementing your great technical vision.


•  Work with our off-shore engineering team to support and accelerate service implementation and testing. 


 


 


 


Qualifications: 


 


•   5+ years relevant industry experience in Java. 


 


•   BS or MS, in Computer Science or a related engineering field. 


 


•   Expert level skills with at least three of the following technologies:  Java, SOAP, Rest, JMS and the Spring Framework. 


 


•   A proven track record of delivering and operating large-sized internet-scale software systems.
